Social Security Hearing Office

The Social Security Administration has over 160 Hearing Offices across the United States. These offices conduct hearings, hear appeals and issue decisions related to retirement and disability benefits claims. These offices are administered by the Office of Hearings Operations (OHO). These offices are staffed by over 1500 administrative law judges (ALJ).


What Services do Social Security Hearing Offices provide?

The Office of Hearing Operations uses Hearing Offices for all appeals hearings of claims filed uniter Titles II and XVI of the Social Security Act. These hearings are conducted by impartial administrative law judges who make decisions on appeals for retirement, SSD and SSI benefits.


How do I find the nearing Hearing Office?

If you have filed a social security benefits appeal, you will be notified of the time and place your appeal will occur. This appeal will most likely be at the hearing office nearest to you, however some hearings may be conducted virtually.
